I was planning to install VMware ESXi OS on newly purchased servers in my office, There was no remote console (ILO, DRAC, IPMI or IMM RSA) available, because networking was yet to be configured, till the time until network is up, being ahead of time, I wanted to install OS on the physical server, I could have burn CD/DVD but decided to go with latest ISO file creating bootable USB drive, to create bootable pen drive, I used Rufus tool.
- • You want to make USB installation media from bootable ISOs (Windows, Linux, VMware, UEFI, etc.)
- • You want to flash a BIOS or other firmware from DOS
- • You need to run a low-level utility
- • You want to effort on a system that doesn't have an OS installed
This is very small utility, Once this portable tool is launched, attach USB disk drive, it will detect the attached device, keep all the options default and no need to change them unless there is special requirement. Choose the ISO drive clicking the button.
Once you click Start button, There is a WARNING: ALL DATA ON DEVICE WILL BE DESTROYED. Make sure no important data on the disk and it is good to format. Clicking Ok will start formatting and copying ISO to usb disk. Make sure when using it on Server BIOS/UEFI option is set to boot from usb flash disk.
