This is a step by step procedure updating vCenter Server Appliance (VCSA) using VAMI portal. Before making update to vCenter server make sure you properly backup vCenter server using article Backup VMware vCenter server using SMB protocol. As I am testing update in DEV environment I have taken a snapshot of the VCSA vm.
To start process, Login to vCenter Server VAMI portal with port 5480. Go to update section. Check the current Version. I have direct access to Internet on the vCenter server click CHECK UPDATES to know the available updates. Select the required or latest update and click STAGE AND INSTALL button.
In the Stage and Install Update wizard click I Accept End user license agreement., Click next.
Next in the backup vCenter Server click, I have backed up vCenter server and its associated databases. Backup VMware vCenter server using SMB protocol. Click Finish button in the last.
Upgrade Installation process starts and you can view the progress.
Once the progress is started it is not advised to refresh or login to VAMI portal to check update when auto logoff is done, I found it gets stuck in between when you try to check the progress. You can leave the upgrade process and check it after given estimated minutes.
Once installation is completed close the wizard. Login again and check the new Version. VCSA upgrade is successful.
