I was setting up a new VMware vCenter server appliance for a new project. While in the middle of setup of vCenter post deployment configuration I was keep receiving below error as log.
Messages
Error: The supplied system name FQDN is not valid.
Resolution: If the supplied system name is a FQDN, then make sure the DNS forward lookup results in at least one valid IP address in the system. if the supplied system name is an IP address, then it should be on of the valid IP address(es) in the system.
This appliance cannot be used or repaired because a failure was encountered. You need to deploy a new appliance. Failure details.
Receiving above error log message on getting start page means I will have to redeploy vCenter server appliance again,
To troubleshoot it, I checked nslookup and name resolution wasn't working properly.
This issue caused because vCenter installation is heavily dependent on DNS resolution (Check vCenter installation and setup guide), To resolved it further I checked on DNS server in DNS management mmc, Host A entry record for vCenter was not existed, I quickly created new A host record with PTR record in forward and reverse lookup zone.
After testing nslookup again, outputs were positive.
After redeploying vCenter appliance ovf again, and in the last of State 1, I saw progress - Install - Stage 2: Appliance setup is in progress and it was working fine.
